DAY 1  

Start your day just south of Des Moines in the scenic town of Indianola. You can catch a guided tour of the vineyard at Summerset Winery. Summerset is the oldest winery in Iowa and produces award- winning Iowa wine from locally grown grapes. (515) 961-3545 

While in Indianola, catch archives for more than 200 years of ballooning at the National Balloon Museum and U.S. National Ballooning Hall of Fame(515) 961-3714

Next, visit Tassel Ridge Winery, surrounded by vineyards and picturesque farmland, just one hour southeast of Des Moines. Tour the winery and taste award-winning wines ranging from dry to sweet including fizzy, fruit, dessert, and iced wines. Open seven days a week, year-round. (641) 672-9463  

For dinner tonight, try one of these great restaurants located downtown: Court Avenue Restaurant & Brewing Company or Exile Brewing Company. Both of these local favorites have plenty of brewing options, as well as delicious food.

DAY 2  

Drink in art at its best in the gallery and around the grounds at the world-renowned Des Moines Art Center(515) 277-8369  

Catch a local wine in the heart of the metro at Jasper Winery. Visit their barrel and tasting rooms and you could even have lunch there! (515) 282-9463  

Set up a tasting and learn the history behind this local brewery, Peace Tree Brewing. Besides their delicious brews, what makes this stop fun is their actual location. The taproom is located in a renovated, metal Quonset hut. (515) 883-2739

For lunch today, try The Iowa Taproom. Known for their amazing display of beers on tap that come through an old grain bin, it’s the center piece of the restaurant.  

For dessert, walk directly next door to Molly’s Cupcakes. They bake from scratch in small batches every day and throughout the day. We recommend their crème brûlée cupcake, it’s their specialty, and it’s DELICIOUS. (515) 244-0778 

Catch a dessert train, a dinner train or an excursion train on the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad. Ride through the scenic Des Moines River Valley. (515) 432-4249 

DAY 3  

Catch an eclectic shop where craftsmanship from the past is available for future renovations. West End Architectural Salvage is also the home to a former HDTV reality show called West End Salvage! Socialize at the coffee shop. Browse four floors of treasures and even have a wine or beer tasting for your group. (515) 243-0499  

After your shopping excursion, head to your next brewery adventure. Confluence Brewery is nestled along a bike trail near Gray’s Lake and this microbrewery features a warehouse-like tasting room pouring regular, seasonal, and experimental beer. (515) 285-9005

Fox Brewing is a craft brewery that proudly brews premium beers, with a focus on exciting, unique, seasonal offerings. They have a Foxy Blonde Belgian Ale and Fox Tail Irish Red Ale available year-round, with a constant rotation of single-batch and barrel-aged beers flavored with locally sourced ingredients when available. (515) 635-0323
