Craft your way through Des Moines

Whether it’s craft beer, local wine or a local experience, you’ll make a memory in Greater Des Moines!

DAY 1

Start your day just south of Des Moines in the scenic town of Indianola. You can catch a guided tour of the vineyard at Summerset Winery. Summerset is the oldest winery in Iowa and produces award- winning Iowa wine from locally grown grapes. (515) 961-3545

While in Indianola, catch archives for more than 200 years of ballooning at the National Balloon Museum and U.S. National Ballooning Hall of Fame(515) 961-3714

Next, visit Tassel Ridge Winery, surrounded by vineyards and picturesque farmland, just one hour southeast of Des Moines. Tour the winery and taste award-winning wines ranging from dry to sweet including fizzy, fruit, dessert, and iced wines. Open seven days a week, year-round. (641) 672-9463

For dinner tonight, try one of these great restaurants located downtown: Court Avenue Restaurant & Brewing Company or Exile Brewing Company. Both of these local favorites have plenty of brewing options, as well as delicious food.

DAY 2

Drink in art at its best in the gallery and around the grounds at the world-renowned Des Moines Art Center(515) 277-8369

Catch a local wine in the heart of the metro at Jasper Winery. Visit their barrel and tasting rooms and you could even have lunch there! (515) 282-9463

Set up a tasting and learn the history behind this local brewery, Peace Tree Brewing. Besides their delicious brews, what makes this stop fun is their actual location. The taproom is located in a renovated, metal Quonset hut. (515) 883-2739

For lunch today, try The Iowa Taproom. Known for their amazing display of beers on tap that come through an old grain bin, it’s the center piece of the restaurant.

For dessert, walk directly next door to Molly’s Cupcakes. They bake from scratch in small batches every day and throughout the day. We recommend their crème brûlée cupcake, it’s their specialty, and it’s DELICIOUS. (515) 244-0778
