Des Moines CrossFit Bid
The Des Moines Area Sports Commission, a division of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, is pleased to submit a bid to be host the CrossFit Games. Des Moines has a strong history of hosting world class sporting events, including the IRONMAN (2,700 athletes), the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships (1,500 athletes), AAU Junior Olympic Games (13,000+ attendees) for the fifth time, Dew Tour, the only U.S. Olympic qualifying skateboarding event for 2020; Drake Relays, America’s Athletic Classic (sold out on Championship Saturday for 40+ years), and the NCAA Track & Field National Championships (2,000 participants),
We have also hosted the Solheim Cup, Principal Charity Classic (annually), NCAA Men’s Basketball First and Second Round, NCAA Wrestling Championships, the International Triathlon Union World Championships (150 elites and 2000+ amateurs) and the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships and President’s Cup and State Games of America (20,000 attendees).
This list of events proves that Des Moines is a destination for athletes of all levels, across all sports. We have the facilities required, volunteers needed and the atmosphere desired to make the CrossFit Games successful.
