Des Moines Metro Opera

  • Overview

Prepare to be dazzled as Mozart meets the movies in an inventive, technicolor reimagining of Mozart's most famous opera, The Magic Flute. This innovative production of Mozart's "surreally enchanting" fairytale puts the singers in front of a huge screen, interacting in real time with animations projected all around them, creating the impression that gigantic comic strips and cartoons are coming to life right before your eyes!

The Magic Flute runs March 5-6 at the Des Moines Civic Center and features the first ever collaboration between Des Moines Metro Opera, Des Moines Performing Arts, and the Des Moines Symphony. Tickets range from $25-125 and are available online at or over the phone at 515-246-2300.

Des Moines Metro Opera’s 50th Summer Festival Season runs July 1-24 and features a new production of Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Iowa premiere and new production of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, the world premiere of Kuster/Campbell’s A Thousand Acres, and the live performance premiere of Geter/Palmer’s American Apollo.
