This year’s theme is “World Series Winners and Pitchers Who Rake,” and the first team announced is a dream lineup for Cubs fans. Ben Zobrist and Jake Arrieta, 2016 World Series champions with the Chicago Cubs, with Arrieta also having suited up for the Iowa Cubs, join forces with international softball sensation Erika Piancastelli. It’s a heavy-hitting trio and they’re just one of four teams ready to put on a show.  

All four teams have been announced and they feature legends from not only the Cubs, but the Cardinals, Yankees, and Red Sox. A few of the big names announced so far include Nick Swisher, Adam Wainwright, and Manny Ramirez. 

2. It’s a Derby with Defense – and Strategy 

This isn’t your backyard home run derby. Each game lasts about 30 minutes, with teams facing off in a head-to-head format. Each player gets one 2.5-minute at bat, while the opposing team takes the field on defense. Points stack up for home runs, but also for defensive catches and bonus targets – like launching a ball through the centerfield bullseye.  

There’s strategy in the swing: Players can call a "hot streak" of five swings where every hit counts double, and tag in a teammate during the final minute for a dramatic finish. It's big hits, bigger moments, and nonstop action from start to finish.

Des Moines is Cubs country, and there’s no better place to host this electrifying event than Principal Park, home of the Iowa Cubs.
