It’s a Trip. Make It a Hole in One.
The annual Principal Charity Classic returns June 10-14 at the Wakonda Club, and there are plenty of ways to make your trip well worth it. Each year, the tournament raises thousands for charity and brings in big names like two-time major champion, Drake alum, and Iowa legend Zach Johnson, making his Principal Charity Classic debut this year. Whether you’re a die-hard golf fan, in it for the social scene, or wrangling the whole crew, there’s a way to do the Classic your way. It’s a social event, a summer kickoff, and a celebration of the impact this community can make together.
Three Distinct Itineraries
For all four days, golf fans will congregate to be a part of the fanfare. People travel from all over the country to attend the Principal Charity Classic. Whether you’re an avid fan of the sport or simply want to be where the action is, we’ve got you covered.
For the Golf Purists
Start your day the right way: early. The dew is still fresh on the grass, and you have a piping hot coffee in hand. Head straight to Wakonda Club and claim your complimentary bag chair—yes, it’s free, yes, you get to keep it, and yes, it will absolutely become your new personality for the day.
Walk all 18 holes like the dedicated fan you are, tracking your favorite PGA TOUR Champions players as they go shot-for-shot. Before they tee off, swing by the Deloitte Driving Range to watch the pros warm up.
If you’re not up for walking the route, settle into your chair at a prime hole, soak in the atmosphere, and remind yourself (again) that reading greens is harder than it looks. Once you’ve decided you need a break from all the action, head over to the Wellabe Fan Village where you can peruse vendors and grab a cold pint in that early summer sun.
For an exclusive experience: Upgrade your tickets to the Michelob ULTRA Trophy Club which includes complimentary beer, a concession food voucher, and a one-time 10% off merch discount.
For the Socializers
Let’s be honest, there’s plenty to enjoy at the Principal Charity Classic beyond golf. You’ll find just as much energy off the course. Join the day at a more civilized hour and make a beeline for the Wellabe Fan Village, where the energy is high, but the expectations to “know golf” are low.
Test your short game at the interactive chipping challenge (results may vary) in the fan village, then reward yourself at the Busch Light Beer Garden. Wander through the expo tent, check out local vendors, and pick up something you definitely didn’t plan on buying.
Up your game with the Michelob ULTRA Trophy Club. Complimentary beer, food voucher, and a merch discount? That’s not an upgrade; that’s a lifestyle choice. And when you’re ready to catch a hole or two, no special tickets are needed. Simply view the game from one of the three fan viewing decks around the park at 10 green, 12 green, and 9 fairway.
For the Whole Crew
Got kids? We’ve got the fun. Head straight to the Blank Children’s Hospital Family Zone, where the little ones can burn off energy with activities from the Des Moines Children’s Museum and a play set and color wall from Rainbow of the Heartland. There’s even a sensory space courtesy of Variety — the Children’s Charity of Iowa, helping make the day more accessible for everyone
If you’re there on Saturday, register ahead for the Junior Sports Experience. It’s a chance for kids to meet PGA TOUR Champions players and local Des Moines teams. Snap some pics and get bragging rights for weeks.
