DES MOINES, Iowa (June 28, 2023) – Greater Des Moines will be hosting more than 12,000 athletes and their families for the 2023 AAU Junior Olympic Games, July 26 – August 5. This is one of the largest youth multi-sport events in the U.S., according to the AAU. An event like this is not possible without the help of volunteers.  “Volunteers are what help elevate the success of an event,” said Catch Des Moines President and CEO Greg Edwards. “These volunteers create a positive experience with their Iowa Nice hospitality and is one of the reasons we continue to host these major events like the AAU Junior Olympic Games.” This is an opportunity for the community to support the large-scale events that are in Greater Des Moines and a chance to see athletes that could one day go on to be pro or Olympic athletes. Over the 11 days, there will be competitions in more than 10 sports. Volunteer spots to be filled include registration, crowd control, set-up and tear down, hospitality, and assisting with the various sports. Venues for the events include MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex, Drake Stadium, and Wellmark YMCA. Volunteer positions are available for individuals, companies, and groups. Register to volunteer here.
