"The Boxcar Children" is based on the book by Gertrude Chandler Warner. Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny Alden are suddenly orphaned when a tragic boating accident kills their parents. Fearful that they will be separated, they flee from the authorities and find refuge in an abandoned boxcar.
"The Boxcar Children" cast of 11 features Sam Bates-Norum, Darby Elliott, Emily Frett, and Jones Pfeifer as the Alden children. The show is directed by Kathy Pingel ("Annie").
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
