The annual event begins one day early this year on Wednesday, August 5 to allow more time for attendees from all over the world to attend.
Iowa Gas Swap Meet and Auctions announces changes in the 2009 meet schedule. For the 23rd annual event, the swap meet will begin a day early on Wednesday, August 5 with vendor sales continuing on Thursday, in the parking lot, ballroom, open spaces and guest rooms at the Airport Holiday Inn in Des Moines, Iowa. On Friday, August 7, Matthews Auctions LLC will conduct a petroleum collectibles auction in the hotel ballroom.
In previous years, the event began with the swap meet on Thursday and Friday, with a can/container auction on Friday evening and petroleum collectibles auction held on Saturday.
The change in schedule allows vendors and collectors who travel from across the country and from around the world more time for their return trips. One of the favorite Iowa Gas activities is the Thursday evening room-to-room hospitality and open house. Vendors and collectors display items for sale in their Holiday Inn guest rooms beginning at 7 p.m.
For the third consecutive year, Matthews Auctions LLC will broadcast the entire auction live on www.proxybid.com. This year’s auction again features consignments of many highly desirable globes, signs and memorabilia.
Iowa Gas is widely recognized as the world’s largest event for busing, selling and trading of original gas pumps, signs, globes, bottles, cans, maps and related advertising memorabilia.
There is no admission charge to attend Iowa Gas. The event is open to the public and all are invited to attend.
