Those looking for further motivation to live a healthier life, now have a new tool to help them find their way throughout Greater Des Moines’ trails.

A new Greater Des Moines Recreational Trails Map and Downtown Recreation Trails Map are now available, just in time for 2010 New Year’s resolutions. The maps are courtesy of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB), Iowa Health – Des Moines, the Friends of Des Moines Parks and the City of Des Moines Park and Recreation Department.

The new maps highlight all of the area walking, biking and running trails throughout Greater Des Moines and Downtown. The maps also pinpoint public art, further demonstrating Greater Des Moines’ commitment to arts and culture to locals and visitors.

There will be 50,000 copies of the maps distributed to area hotels, the Information Kiosk at the Des Moines International Airport, GDMCVB office, Iowa Health – Des Moines hospitals – which include Iowa Methodist, Iowa Lutheran, Blank Children’s Hospital and Methodist West Hospital, Des Moines City Hall Information Desk, Greater Des Moines libraries and various outdoor enthusiast shops before Spring. The maps are available for download immediately at www.www.catchdesmoines.com/trails.

“We’re proud to offer this first-ever comprehensive trails map highlighting our communities’ public art,” said Greg Edwards, GDMCVB President and CEO. “Our visitors tell us they enjoy exploring our parks and trails. This map helps visitors and locals experience Greater Des Moines’ unique trails system, while emphasizing the importance of health and fitness.”

The maps are a collaboration between GDMCVB, Iowa Health – Des Moines and the City of Des Moines Park and Recreation Department.
