DES MOINES, Iowa (Nov. 7, 2018) – The opening of Des Moines’ first attached convention center hotel, the $101 million, 330-room Hilton Des Moines Downtown, earlier this year was just the start of refreshed hotel offerings in Greater Des Moines.

This fall, the Des Moines Marriott Downtown hosted an unveiling and ribbon cutting to highlight the $18 million modernization project to Iowa’s largest hotel. The project included a transformed porte cochere, innovated lobby concept, redesigned concierge lounge, 403 renovated guest rooms and 10 highly-appointed guest suites. The modernized rooms feature new beds, state-of-the-art connectivity and mobile key access.

Despite a new look for the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, General Manager Patrick Miller said one thing has not changed – his team’s dedication to guest service.

“Service is our foundation,” Miller said. “Our staff is ‘Iowa Nice’ and has 1,892 combined years of total hospitality experience. A handful of the team members have been with the hotel since its opening year in 1981. Our staff welcomes our guests to our hotel as if they were welcoming them into their home.”

In October, the Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel reopened after a two-year, $20 million renovation process where nearly every surface, from the ballroom to the heating and cooling systems, were touched.

Founded in 1919, the 12-story hotel features an updated lobby with new furniture, lighting, a new restaurant, Scopri, remodeled guest rooms and a renovated ballroom and event spaces.

“The historic Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel reopened on Monday, October 15, 2018 following an extensive two-year renovation,” said Tara McFarling, director of sales and marketing. “The Renaissance Des Moines Savery is reinstated as a proud gem of the city, unveiling 209 fully-renovated guest rooms, a new restaurant and revitalized event space with touches of the city and the hotel’s history incorporated throughout the property. We are thrilled to bring this lifestyle hotel back to the Des Moines market and for the guests of Des Moines.”

Additional updates to full service properties in Greater Des Moines include the new, 123-room Hyatt West Des Moines and the renovated, 285-room Sheraton West Des Moines.

“We are excited to have such a great hotel package to offer conventions, sporting events and meetings in the Des Moines metro,” said Greg Edwards, president and CEO at Catch Des Moines. “We are now able to offer nearly 1,000 brand-new or recently renovated hotel rooms right in the heart of downtown Des Moines – that is something really exciting.”
