DES MOINES, Iowa (November 29, 2022) – One of the biggest gymnastics meets in the Midwest is back in Des Moines this January, Chow’s Winter Classic and Winter Classic Cup presented by Hy-Vee. The three-day meet will take place in Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center, January 12 – 14.  This year’s event features two college dual meets: Iowa State vs. Northern Illinois and Simpson College vs. Wisconsin-Eau Claire. This will be Simpson’s first meet in Central Iowa with their brand-new program.  “We are excited to once again host many of the top gymnasts in the Midwest for our annual event. The addition of two college meets will be tremendous fun for fans and our competing gymnasts,” said Liang Chow, head coach of Chow’s Gymnastics and Dance. “It will be a great weekend showcasing our great sport.”  This year’s events will be the 20th Winter Classic and the second year Chow’s has hosted the Winter Classic Cup presented by Hy-Vee. Past events have hosted many National Champions, future collegiate gymnasts, and even world team members.

"We love it when events return to Greater Des Moines, particularly one as famed as the Chow's Winter Classic," said Catch Des Moines President and CEO Greg Edwards. "Any time you get 1,100 of the best athletes in their sport to Greater Des Moines, it's a big deal, and this is a great way to kick off the new year. We are blessed to have Coach Chow in Des Moines."  “Hy-Vee is honored to help bring world-class gymnastics to Des Moines,” said Matt Nickell, vice president of sports marketing at Hy-Vee. “While Hy-Vee sponsors many collegiate sports programs across our eight-state region, it is exciting to be part of an elite program as Chow’s and helping elevate collegiate gymnastics and its athletes.” Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 3. All competing gymnasts are given free tickets to the college meets held on January 14.  Chow’s Booster Club’s mission is to promote and support competition and growth in the sport of gymnastics.
