DES MOINES, Iowa (May 11, 2020) – Catch Des Moines today launched the “Buy Now, Visit Later” hotel bonds campaign. The program aims to support recovery efforts for local hotels, pillars of the tourism and hospitality industry – one of the hardest-hit sectors during the pandemic.

The hotel bonds initiative is designed to inspire residents to look forward to making new memories with loved ones. By investing in a $100 bond to a local hotel that matures to $150 in 60 days, residents can help local hotels weather the storm and use the bonds for a staycation or to invite friends and family to visit later. Nearly 30 Greater Des Moines hotels have signed up for the initiative.

“Our hotels play a vital role in sustaining the wonderful quality of life we enjoy in Greater Des Moines,” said Greg Edwards, President and CEO of Catch Des Moines. “We’re asking the community to invest in the industry that contributes to our culture and fuels growth for our entire region.”

Hotel-motel tax contributes to the advancement of the arts and culture by funding organizations and programs which help keep communities vibrant. Visitor paid hotel-motel tax is reinvested in community betterment and recreational projects for the region and supports efforts to attract events, festivals, sports tournaments, and conventions. It also helps market Greater Des Moines to leisure travelers who then support local restaurants, retailers, and attractions.

“Hilton Des Moines Downtown is proud to be a part of the Greater Des Moines’ community and at the forefront of new initiatives to provide memorable experiences,” said Tamara Chubb, director of sales and marketing at Hilton Des Moines Downtown. “Our hope is that this program will inspire future travel plans and help our local economy thrive.”
