DES MOINES, Iowa (April 1, 2020) – Today, Catch Des Moines and the Greater Des Moines Partnership rolled out DSM Local Challenge Bingo Contest, a creative new way to participate in the #DSMlocalchallenge viral social media initiative. The challenge, which has seen over 19M impressions on social media and tens of thousands of shares since its launch on March 20, encourages the Greater Des Moines community to support local businesses and organizations while practicing social distancing.

The DSM Local Challenge Bingo Contest encourages individuals to engage in activities spanning nine different categories, including buying retail and hotel gift cards; supporting music, artists and the performing arts; purchasing future tickets to attractions and cultural institutions; making donations to non-profits or food banks; and ordering takeout or delivery; all while challenging three friends to do the same. The DSM Local Challenge also encourages supporting small businesses providing business-to-business services such as professional development, consulting, printing, marketing, accounting, IT solutions and more.

Participants who complete a bingo on the 5x5 card become a “Local Champion” and are entered to win one of three Staycation Prize Packs featuring t-shirts, gift cards to local establishments and a staycation at a Greater Des Moines hotel.

"We’ve been incredibly proud of the swell of support for our local restaurants with the DSM Local Challenge. With the bingo contest, we want to inspire the community to support all the small businesses that contribute to our vibrant culture," said Greg Edwards, CEO of Catch Des Moines. “By buying gift cards to locally owned stores or purchasing season passes to our performing arts organizations, together we can ensure we emerge on the other side more united as a community.”

“DSM has already embraced this challenge to support local businesses in a big way,” said Jay Byers, CEO of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “We have seen many #DSMlocalchallenge examples of support, including lining up sack lunches for truckers and corporations donating to food banks. This next push and promotion will provide even more encouragement for people to get creative as we collectively work to support local businesses.”
