DES MOINES, IA — Catch a new, advanced and comprehensive community calendar providing visitors and locals with the most extensive list of things to do in Greater Des Moines. Launching at noon today, the calendar pulls events from more than 100 local websites and automatically feeds them to catchdesmoines.com/events.
The Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau partnered with a local tech company, VyvaCity, to enhance the events calendar on catchdesmoines.com and fulfill a longstanding community need.
"Our goal in launching this new community calendar is to provide the most comprehensive list of Greater Des Moines events for visitors and locals while simplifying the process for many organizations in our region that don't have time to submit multiple events onto multiple event calendars in the area," says Greg Edwards, President and CEO of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau and Des Moines Area Sports Commission. "We will continue to add more websites as ‘auto-feeds' in the coming weeks and months with the great help of the VyvaCity team. This new calendar also provides a central location for area non-profits to check date availability when planning their own events."
The calendar allows users to instantly share events via social media and receive personalized recommendations based on events they've previously attended. The calendar will continue to strengthen with additional websites added to the list that pulls events on to catchdesmoines.com/events.
"Our events calendar is consistently the highest viewed page on our website—now with this new technology, we can present even more options to anyone living in, or visiting Greater Des Moines. There are countless ways to experience our city and this new community calendar is the tool to discover those new experiences," adds Edwards.
The product, created by VyvaCity, is available in a variety of formats built to fit various organization's needs. "As a local company, we couldn't be prouder of our partnership with the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau on creating this product," said Brad Goldman, Vice President of Operations at VyvaCity.
