Out of a record number 48 filmmaker entries, Top 12 on the Fleur Cinema movie screens and walk the red carpet during the 48HFP Awards and Celebration on the evening of August 12

Walk the red carpet, enjoy the Top 12 films from the Des Moines 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) in 2010, and then find out all the award winners 7 pm, August 12 at the Fleur Cinema & Cafe. A catered reception and exclusive concert featuring The Speedbumps follows at the Des Moines Social Club. Red Carpet tickets must be purchased in advance at MidwesTIX.com or Fleur Cinema Box Office.

"I don't envy the judges and the decisions they needed to make," states Des Moines 48HFP Producer Sam Tuomi. "The competition was fierce and the independent filmmakers of Iowa have some mad film skills. The August 12 Screening will be a celebration of creative Iowa talent."

Over July 23-25, 48 filmmaking teams took part in the 48 HFP challenge in Iowa to write, film, edit, and produce a short film in 48 hours. All films were required to be between four to seven minutes in length, exemplify their randomly selected genre, and include these required elements: character - Carl/Carla Ross (a plumber), prop - coins, and line of dialog - "Who came up with that?" All 48 films were shown at the Fleur Cinema July 28 & 29 for people to enjoy and vote for their favorite film in each screening group. Since then, judges have reviewed the entries and chosen the Top 12 films to be part of the Best of City Screening and Awards Celebration sponsored by the Des Moines Social Club and MidwesTIX.

Jason Garnett of JG Faux Show will host the Best of City Screening and Awards Celebration, as well as interview filmmakers, actors, crew and fans of each film on the red carpet prior to the celebration at 7 pm, August 12 outside the Fleur Cinema & Cafe. Over $2000 in cash and prizes will be given out to the winners, including the "Best of Des Moines" award for the judges choice of the finest 48HFP film to advance to the International 48 Hour Film Project competition in the coming months. Filmmakers of the "Best of Des Moines" film will also receive $1000 cash and other prizes.

The 48 Hour Film Project is a film competition in over 80 cities, worldwide. The 48HFP is a wild and sleepless weekend in which filmmakers make a short film - write, shoot, edit and score it - in just 48 hours. On Friday night, they are each assigned a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in their film. 48 hours later, the completed film must be submitted. Since 2005, the Des Moines 48 Hour Film Project has showcased over 220 films.

The Des Moines 48 Hour Film Project is sponsored by The Fleur Cinema & Cafe, Put It On Video, Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines Social Club, Greater Des Moines Convention & Visitors Bureau, Iowa Motion Picture Association, Iowa Scriptwriters Alliance, Lotus Moments Event Center & Printing, The Wedding Format, Fong's Pizza, and MidwesTIX.
