History
Established in 2003.Gazali's started in the 1980s at Valley West Mall. After several location changes, we found our home for the last thirteen years at 1205 25th Street, between the Varsity Theatre and Great Clips. We are proud to be located in the heart of 'Dawg Town' and serving Drake students and staff, a well as our local regulars. We are always happy to meet new guests, whom we know will be back for the 'Best Gyros In Town!!'
Owner
MJ came to Des Moines from LA to help run, and eventually own, Gazali's. As a family, the entire Gazali's family are BIG foodies, always striving for the freshest and best tasting foods. MJ's mother and his brother, Mario, were the original cooks at the restaurant, with Mom passing on many of her specialties and recipes. Over time, all of her children (all EIGHT of them) became great, if not phenomenal, chefs at home AND in various restaurant ventures. MJ worked for the award-winning Emirates Airlines and was exposed to some of the most delicious and interesting foods on earth! While in LA, MJ pursued a lucrative acting career, supplementaling it with his involvement for some of the most prestigous retaurants in the LA area. Food and Gazali's are synomous...and always, always made with the best tasting and freshest food in mind!

Love this little Mediterranean restaurant. The owners are Lebanese and his brother owns Open Sesame in the East Village. Same great food but two different atmospheres and price ranges. Gazali's is the more casual and cheaper restaurant. In the heart of Drake University and attracts a college crowd. Amazing hummus and pita bread. Homemade dressings and sauces.

Great food for a great price, can't beat it! Had a lamb gryo and baklava. Both were served quickly, made with the best ingredients, and delicious! I am so happy that I found this cozy restaurant, and can't wait to go back, especially since they are expanding!
