The 2016 Hoops and Hops Party Headquarters will be held March 17,18, and 19 from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Cowles Commons in Downtown Des Moines.
The Iowa Craft Beer Tent will be open along with 10 Des Moines area Food Trucks. There will be tv’s inside the tent to watch the NCAA First and Second Rounds of the March Madness basketball tournament. NO ADMISSION FEE and there will be activities for all ages.
Contributions will be made to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Des Moines.
The Big Dance is a juried exhibit, featuring multiple forms of artwork, from artists all over the world. To coincide with Des Moines being host to the 2nd round of the 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, we put out a call to artists, and they answered.

Thursday, March 17 brings Des Moines’ 20 Annual Mickey’s St. Patrick’s Day Bash.
Whether partygoers are Irish all year long or just for the day, here for the NCAA Tournament, Mickey’s Irish Pub on Court expects to welcome 5,000 Irish fans for traditional St. Patrick’s staples like green-colored beer, green eggs for breakfast, tons of music, and Irish entertainment.
With the NCAA Tournament just up the street, the Party will be a welcomed break between games. Plus, this year Mickey’s is bringing in a 40-ft outdoor HD tv screen to show all the games! The biggest TV Des Moines has ever seen.
Maintaining a reputation for throwing the metro’s best parties, Mickey’s pulls out all the stops. Back-to-back music and entertainment will culminate to a show-stopping event as Brushville, Dolewite, and American Country take stage throughout the evening.
Top O’ the Morning (6 a.m.)
From Irish music, food, beverages and music, Mickey’s celebrates with a jam-packed schedule of festivities.
In the proud tradition of St. Patrick's Day, the day kicks off for early celebrators with a delicious start as Mickey’s serves up breakfast and the traditional green beer. The party opens promptly at 6 a.m. with Irish music on the patio.
Block Party (Noon)
As Des Moines’ AUTHENTIC St. Patrick’s Day Block Party, party-goers, NCAA Tournament goers, and everyone Irish are invited to join the festivities on Court Avenue between 3rd and 4th street.
The Block Party will feature several local food vendors, green beer, St. Patty’s merchandise and non-stop music entertainment featuring live music from
Brushville, Dolewite, and American Country.
Mickey’s Irish Pub will deliver on all levels, but the bands will be a major entertainment highlight. Several DJ’s will play both Irish music and today’s popular music.

2016 Friendly Sons of St. Patrick's Day Parade
Friday, March 18 at Noon.
Includes Irish musicians, leprechauns, bagpipe players and generally any-and-all-things-Irish. The parade will start at noon at SW 7th, west on MLK Jr. Parkway, north on 15th Street, east on Grand Avenue.

Saturday, March 19th at 9 a.m. at Fleet Feet Sports Des Moines. Routes of 3 & 5 miles. Meet at Fleet Feet Sports Des Moines, 521 E. Locust. At the corner of E. 6th & Locust in the Historic East Village. Show your school pride and wear gear from your school on the run. Free.
