The Des Moines Area Sports Commission (DMASC), an organization under the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB) umbrella, is asking Central Iowans to vote now for their favorite local sports performances of 2010. Online voting is open now through February 18.

The Central Iowa Sports Awards (CISA) will be given to individuals and teams who have pursued athletic excellence with honor in 2010. The calendar year activities must have occurred within a 75-mile radius of home plate at Principal Park. Award winners will be named at the CISA banquet Sunday, February 27, 2010, at 6 p.m. at the Meadows Ballroom, Prairie Meadows Racetrack, and Casino in Altoona. Tickets are available for $85 per seat, or $650 for a table of eight.

"The Central Iowa Sports Awards are an opportunity for all of us to honor excellence and achievement in athletics," said Al Lorenzen, DMASC Vice President of Sports and Development. "We need everyone to vote for their favorite athlete or team today!"

Central Iowa Sports Awards will be awarded in the following categories:

High School

  • Female Athlete of the Year
  • Male Athlete of the Year
  • Game of the Year
  • Team of the Year

College/University

  • Female Athlete of the Year
  • Male Athlete of the Year
  • Game of the Year
  • Team of the Year

Professional/Motorsports/Other

  • Athlete of the Year
  • Event of the Year
