The Des Moines Area Sports Commission (DMASC), an organization under the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB) umbrella, has established the first-ever Central Iowa Sports Awards. The awards recognize those who have pursued athletic excellence with honor in 2009.

Awards will be presented in four categories:
High School

  • Male Athlete of the Year
  • Female Athlete of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Play of the Year
  • Game of the Year

College/University

  • Male Athlete of the Year
  • Female Athlete of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Play of the Year
  • Game of the Year

Professional/Motorsports/Other

  • Athlete of the Year
  • Event of the Year

Lifetime Achievement

Nominations for the first Central Iowa Sports Awards can be made now through December 18, 2009 at DesMoinesSports.com. Nominees’ activities must have occurred within a 75-mile radius of home plate at Principal Park and the activities must have occurred during the 2009 calendar year. Online voting of nominees will take place from January 4, 2010 to February 4, 2010. Complete official rules are available at DesMoinesSports.com.
