Honorary Chair Named for 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games
DES MOINES, IA - The Des Moines Area Sports Commission, a division of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, has named Suzie Glazer Burt as Honorary Chair of the 2014 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines-July 22 - August 2.
Burt not only contributes philanthropically to local charitable organizations, primarily for education and children's services, but she also has a strong history in donating volunteer hours throughout the Greater Des Moines community. She has served various leadership positions, including with the Hospice of Central Iowa Foundation Board of Trustees, Variety Club of Iowa, Drake University and the Boys and Girls Club of Central Iowa. Additionally, she has supported community efforts including The World Food Prize Hall of Laureates, Des Moines Water Works Park, United Way of Central Iowa and many more.
"We're honored to have Suzie's support as Honorary Chair," said Greg Edwards, President and CEO of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau and Des Moines Area Sports Commission. "She's been an excellent advocate for the Games, and we look forward to a successful event with her guidance."
The Games is a $1.5 million event hosted by the Des Moines Area Sports Commission, generating $47 million in economic impact for the Greater Des Moines economy. The Games will include 40,000 visitors, including 14,000 youth athletes competing in 23 different sports, 2,600 volunteers and 2,000 coaches.
