Expect a busy week in Des Moines. Many visitors for NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships and World Pork Expo arrive in town today and tomorrow.

NCAA Track and Field hits the blue oval at Drake Stadium Wednesday, June 8-Saturday, June 11 and is expected to bring with it up to 40,000 attendees and $4 million in economic impact.

The World Pork Expo at the Iowa State Fairgrounds also kicks off Wednesday, June 8 and runs through Friday, June 10. World Pork Expo is expected to bring 30,000 attendees and $2.3 million in economic impact.

"Remaining hotel rooms are at a premium," said Greg Edwards, President and CEO at the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB). "We've been working diligently behind the scenes to ensure restaurants, hotels, attractions and other community partners are aware of the additional traffic they should prepare for this week. We've also provided table tents, welcome buttons and welcome signs for businesses to print and place in their storefronts. Additional volunteers are also staffing the Des Moines International Airport Information Kiosk."

The GDMCVB is also helping alert travelers of the Fleur Drive detours that may add an additional 5-10 minutes of travel time to and from the Airport.
