The 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Des Moines June 8-11, 2011 has been named the Best Collegiate Multi-Sport/Multi-Discipline Event in the country by SportsTravel Magazine.

Award winners were nominated and voted upon by readers of SportsTravel, the sports world’s event magazine. To be eligible, events had to occur between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011 and must have met the following requirements:

  • Superior organization of and attendance at the event
  • Superior experience for competitors/spectators
  • Host city/venue served to enhance the event

“This is a tremendous honor for everyone involved with this great event,” said Greg Edwards, President/CEO of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB), which is the parent organization to the Des Moines Area Sports Commission (DMASC). “Our team worked closely with the NCAA and Sandy Hatfield Clubb and her team at Drake University to make the Track and Field Championships successful for the local community and memorable for the athletes, coaches and fans. It’s invigorating to have others notice our teams’ exemplary work.”

SportsTravel Magazine announced the winners of all 2011 SportsTravel Awards at the TEAMS 2011 Conference and October on October 6 in Las Vegas.
