How does where you come from enrich your writing? Find out when you join award-winning author Stephanie Hemphill of Chicago for the Young Writers’ Workshop. You’ll take a tour of the museum’s archives, discover the story behind an artifact in the Iowa History 101 exhibition and weave the past into fiction that reflects you as a writer.
Throughout the week, you will participate in icebreaker and writing exercises, verbally share your writing and give and accept feedback on your writing. The week is capped off by giving a public performance of your story and a reception with family and friends. Most of the week will be spent in the classroom, but a few out-of-the-classroom excursions are planned. Students will learn about historical research, view the museum collections vault and have plenty of writing, editing, feedback and rewriting time. Register by June 8.
