Women of Fort Des Moines Making History: An Author Visit with Cheryl Mullenbach

    In 1942, Des Moines became the home of the first female military officers in American history. More than 400 women came to Fort Des Moines to serve in non-combat roles, including several African American women. Historian Cheryl Mullenbach will discuss the stories of the brave women who broke race and gender barriers to help win World War II. Mullenbach is a recognized local historian, having written about several aspects of Iowa’s past, the Industrial Revolution, and the Great Depression.
