Walnut Creek Watershed Festival

For Friday, October 6,2017- Day at Clive -
Between 9:00 am and 11:00 am, We will invite local schools to participate in rotating kids activities. Activities will include construction of bat boxes with a Bat Biologist, catching and identifying benthic macro invertebrates, a nature walk with bird ID, and water monitoring.
Between 1:00 and 4:00 pm, we are inviting corporate groups and volunteers to participate in invasive species removal and a creek clean-up. We are also working with the City of Clive for a live demonstration of Sheep vs. goats invasive grazing. We will have a host of other demonstration projects including rain barrels, soil quality restoration, and school gardens, all with urban conservation mind.
From 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm we will host the festival with craft beer, food trucks, and live music. This will be the time we would want organizations present to share the great work that is being done across our watershed and our state.
For Saturday October 7,2017- Day at Windsor Heights
We will start with Good Vibes Yoga at 11:00 am. The creek clean-up and invasive species removal will being after yoga.
We will have a host of other demonstration projects including rain barrels, soil quality restoration, and school gardens, all with urban conservation mind. Project AWARE information, RainScaping Iowa, Polk County SWCD, IOWAter sampling demonstrations, Blank Park Zoo, catching and identifying aquatic bugs and other organisms, various children's activities, Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR) were present with several raptors and Iowa avian information. We contracted with a local artist to construct a sculpture from the trash found in the creek. Last year, the artist constructed a canoe paddle which is on display at our park. These are just few of the organizations attending on October 7th. There will be food trucks, inflatables, live music and activities for the whole family to enjoy. The Festival will end with City sponsored Fireworks show at 7:30.
