Overview

More than 200,000 people died in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, at the end of World War II. These cities have been rebuilt, but the impact is not forgotten. Pa Vang Goldbeck will share her experience of a recent visit to Hiroshima during this program at the North Side Library. Goldbeck’s two-week visit came as part the Mayors for Peace organization. Des Moines mayor Frank Cownie is the lead U.S. mayor for Mayors for Peace, which dedicates itself to world peace and a nuclear-free world.
