The Des Moines Register Beer Caucus will be 7 pm on Wednesday, December 11, at The Hall in West Moines!
The Beer Caucus is designed to encourage Iowans to participate in the Democratic or Republican party caucuses on Feb. 3. Attendees will learn how each party's caucus works by casting votes to elect one of their favorite Iowa craft beers as president of the Beer Caucus.
Candidates in the Beer Caucus are:
Big Grove Brewing of Iowa City with Easy Eddy IPA
Confluence Brewery of Des Moines with Des Moines IPA
Exile Brewing Company of Des Moines with Ruthie Smooth Gold Lager
Lake Time Brewery of Clear Lake with Peanut Butter Porter
Peace Tree Brewing of Knoxville with Blonde Fatale
SingleSpeed Brewing of Iowa City with Ring Around the Gose
Courtney Crowder, the Des Moines Register’s Iowa columnist, will serve as mistress of ceremonies for the event. Representatives from the Polk County Republican & Democratic parties will conduct their party's beer caucus.
Craft brew representatives will be on hand to speak about their beers' outstanding qualities & electability, plus election officials will be there to register voters for the actual caucuses. Attendees will also receive snacks plus free tasting samples of each beer. The Hall’s cash bar & full menu are available for additional food /drink purchases.
The event begins with beer tasting from 7-7:45 p.m. Attendees are urged to arrive no later than 7 p.m. to be sure they have enough time to sample all the beer candidates. The Republican caucus will start immediately after the beer tasting, & the Democratic caucus will follow. Results of both caucuses will be announced at the end of the evening, at about 9 p.m.
The event is free, but advance registration required at DesMoinesRegister.com/BeerCaucus. Beer Caucus participants must be 21 years of age or older.
