Peace Day 5K and International Festival

  • Overview

The United Nations declared September 21 the International Day of peace back in 1981 after a unanimous resolution. The UN's General Assembly described the date as a day for, "commemorating & strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations & peoples." IRIS works to promote peace in our everyday lives, but we also hold an event each year to highlight the International Day of Peace.

This year, the Peace Day 5K & International Festivalwill be held at Raccoon River Park. The event gives our Youth Exchange & Study (YES) participants each year an opportunity to share information about their countries and cultures with their community. With a 5K to promote peace through running, and an "International Village" of games and activities, join us to learn more about different countries and cultures, as well as local organizations you may not have known about before. With the change in location and more activities added, the 2019 Peace Day 5K and International Festival is sure to be a family-fun event!
