Overview
Iowa Architectural Foundation & Iowa Mid-Century Modern are pleased to announce MIDWEST MODERN, a Mid-Century Modern Home Tour in Des Moines on Sunday, June 5 from 12 - 5pm! This year’s self-guided tour showcases four outstanding homes in the metro, including three designed by Iowa architects & one iconic Lustron “Home of the Future,” all from the 1950’s & 60’s.
The homes designed by architects are on Des Moines Southside, include one in Southern Hills, designed by architect Jim Champion, AIA; another near MacRae Park, designed by Amos Emery, AIA & another designed by Paul Schwartz, who was with the Emery firm. The Lustron home in Beaverdale is a great example of these compact, pre-fabricated, enameled steel homes, developed in response to a housing shortage following World War II.
The tours provide excellent & diverse architectural examples of the era, and also exhibit how to bring mid-century styles to homes of every decade. Touring the interiors, guests can visit with the homeowners about their restoration or renovation process, their motivation for buying a Mid-Century home & how they selected their home’s furnishings.Tickets are required & can be purchased at: https://www.iowamcm.com/midwest-modern-1.
Don't delay your purchase, as they are selling fast! There is also a special bonus surprise! Ticket purchasers will receive a free signature cocktail created exclusively for the event at the Bartender’s Handshake, a small neighborhood bar on Ingersoll Avenue specializing in craft cocktails.
Contact Suzie Fredregill at 515-777-0667 with any questions about the home tour.
