Influenced by soul singers and powerful female singer songwriters, Michelle started writing complete songs by the time she was 12. Performing weekly at her church at that age, she learned gospel and christian rock and applied that knowledge as the foundation for songwriting. As she started college to major in musical performance, she would learn about the blues and music theory. Her ear was instantly drawn to the 1,4&5’s, and her heart was touched by the soulful voices of famous soul and blues singers such as Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, and Susan Tedeschi.
