This is the 32nd year for this beloved haunted house located in the eerie basement of Linn’s Supermarket.
“From the moment you crawl in to the pitch black tunnel and descend into the basement, you know you are in for an experience unlike any other haunted attraction around,” says the Linn’s Haunted House website. “Linn’s Haunted House relies on suspense and startles rather than blood and gore, making it the most unique classic haunted house around.”
Although Linn’s isn’t as gory as some other local haunted houses, it will definitely make you jump. Visitors to www.DMhauntedhouses.com have consistently rated Linn’s as the scariest haunted attraction in Des Moines, and last year Linn’s won every award the website offered.
Many years ago, 79-year-old Merlyn Linn created a haunted house in his garage for his kids and the neighborhood kids. Then 32 years ago, he moved the haunt to the supermarket. As of this year, Linn is no longer running the supermarket, but he is still running the haunted house.
Huffman is looking forward to visiting Linn’s this year. “Last year it was uncertain whether Merlyn would be able to keep the haunted house going in the future,” Huffman said. “People just love, love, love Linn’s. It’s such an institution. I’m glad it’s running again this year, and I’m excited to check it out.”
