Tickets include food, drink, parting gifts, and a screening of “Just Eat It,” a documentary about food waste, told through the eyes of a couple who pledge to survive only on discarded food. (Watch the trailer here.) You’ll never look at a brown banana the same way again!
We will also have a bake walk (you could win a dessert from one of Des Moines’ best female chefs or food pros), a wine pull (your mystery bottle could be a Des Moines restaurant owner’s or sommelier’s fave), and information about ways to reduce food waste right here in our community (including a crash course on food composting).
It’s all hosted by Greater Des Moines LDEI (the local chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International), a nonprofit organization that champions local food causes and supports women in the culinary, fine beverage, and hospitality fields. (I’m a member.) Proceeds benefit LDEI’s culinary scholarship fund.
