  • Overview

Entering it’s 44th year, Iowa hosts the largest state high school dance competition in the nation with 250+ high school teams and a total of more than 5,000 dancers performing more than 600 routines throughout the twoday competition. Additionally, this year marks the 14th year for college competition hosting 20+ Iowa colleges competing in three categories of Pom, Hip Hop and Jazz. Not only is this is a competitive venue for our colleges, it is also an excellent showcase for our college dance teams to the thousands of high school dancers in attendance.

The state competition, held in Des Moines, includes performances in both Wells Fargo Arena and the Hy-Vee Hall. Three panels of dance industry professionals and leaders from across the nation judge our teams competing in a variety of 15 categories; the most popular being Pom. The ISDTA awards more than trophy placements at state team competition; eligible teams are also recognized for outstanding Sportsmanship, Community Service, Academics and Character. Champions of our state team competition are featured in our 90-minute televised championship show aired on IPTV each year.
