The Enabling Garden in Altoona, IA, will have its spring perennial plant sale from noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The sale will take place at the Enabling Garden located at 1050 1st Ave. S., Altoona, Iowa 50009, southeast of the Hy-Vee loading dock.
A wide variety of perennial plants and ornamental grasses will be for sale including: Sedum, Fountain Grass, Siberian Iris, Little Blue Stem, Hostas, Day Lilies, Stella d’Oro Lilies, Henry Eilers Black-Eyed Susans, Prairie Drop Seed, Karl Forester Grass, Liatris, Bee Balm, Nepeta, etc.
The mission of the Altoona Enabling Garden is to demonstrate ways gardens can accommodate people with disabilities, allowing everyone to share in the beauty of nature and the joy of gardening. The garden is designed for ease of movement and accessibility with paved paths, raised beds, and vertical plantings. It is maintained by a group of thirty Polk County Master Gardeners, who have received horticultural training through the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, and by local volunteers.
All proceeds will go toward the purchase of perennials and annuals, preparation of beds, maintenance supplies, and equipment for the garden. Please support the event to keep the garden beautiful for the entire community.
