Overview

The Des Moines Choral Society, conductor Dr. James Rodde and accompanist Elaine Wedeking will perform a Masterworks concert on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 7:30 PM. St. Ambrose Cathedral provides the perfect setting for this concert, featuring Passion and Resurrection by Eriks Esenvalds, selections from G. F. Handel’s Israel in Egypt, and contemporary works by Jake Runestad, Herbert Howells, and Iowa native Shawn Kirchner. Come hear the beautiful sounds of the choir, its soloists, and instrumentalists (strings, percussion, oboes and bassoons).
Artistic Director and Conductor James Rodde is the Louise Moen Endowed Chair in Music and Director of Choral Activities at Iowa State University, where he conducts both the Iowa State Singers and the Iowa Statesmen, and he teaches choral conducting and literature. Choirs under his direction have toured internationally and have been honored with performances at four national and five divisional ACDA conventions. An active clinician, Dr. Rodde has led numerous state and regional festival ensembles, including All-State choirs in Kentucky, Texas, Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Colorado, and Nebraska.
