Overview

The Des Moines Choral Society, conductor Dr. James Rodde and accompanist Elaine Wedeking will perform their annual “Christmas with the Choral Society” Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 7:30 PM. St. Ambrose Cathedral provides the perfect setting for some of the season’s most joyous music. Come experience an exciting season of original and classic compositions that stir the soul and inspire the mind with moving performances.
A well-loved Des Moines holiday tradition, this concert will include Christmas favorites and a festive carol sing-along. The program features Johannes Brahms’ Schaffe in mir, Gott, one of his most widely performed sacred motets, and Eriks Esenvalds’ Magnificat. Sergey Khvoshchinsky, a native of Belarus who now resides in the Minneapolis area, has re-orchestrated Christmas Silence specifically for this performance. The choir will also perform two movements of Marisha Chamberlain’s bluegrass mass, accompanied by fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and bass. Elaine Hagenberg, a well-published composer and member of the Choral Society, has arranged the accompaniments for tonight’s sing-along carols. Although these traditional carols will be well known to you, we’ll all experience premiere performances of these new arrangements.

Tickets for the December 10th performance are $25-30 for adults and $10-15 for students. Purchase tickets by visiting www.dmchoral.org or by phone at 515-273-5255.
