Former NFL player Wade Davis is a thoughtful leader, writer, public speaker, and educator on gender, race, and orientation equality. (https://wadeadavis.com/)
Bankers Trust, Wells Fargo, Principal, Veridian Credit Union and Drake are proud to partner in this effort to bring Wade to Des Moines, but there is a little secret we need you to share: This isn’t about our corporations. It’s about truly starting dialogue and being an active participant in the work our community needs to do in order to build inclusion and belonging for all.
Second: Together, we are introducing a new hashtag--#DesMoinesAllyShip—starting on March 25. With your participation, the hashtag will showcase the valuable work being done in our communities, highlight the importance of intersectionality, and help to answer one of the most common questions we hear from new allies: “How do I help/start/engage?”
Third, we’re happy to announce that Raygun will be selling a new t-shirt that will be unveiled at our March 27th event, with some of the proceeds being shared with organizations that drive inclusion efforts in our community. Capital City Pride will benefit during the month of April – who wants to be next? Please send me a list of what month you have events planned, and we will work to set up the next 10 months to promote these sales.
How can you help? Thanks for asking. Here is how you can start.
Starting March 25th, tag your inclusion events with #DesMoinesAllyShip. With your participation, the hashtag will showcase the valuable work being done in our communities, highlight the importance of intersectionality, and help to answer one of the most common questions we hear from new allies: “How do I help/start/engage?”
Invite your friends, family, and community members to the free talk by Wade Davis on March 27 at 6pm. We’d love if Women Lead Change, West Des Moines Human Right’s Commission, Juneteenth, NAACP, One Iowa, Iowa Safe Schools, Easter Seals, Goodwill and everyone else I missed would list this as an upcoming event! Everyone is welcome to attend.
