    Join us at Olson-Larsen Galleries alternative exhibition space, OL Guild at 201 4th Street, one block east of the main gallery on Thursday, June 21 from 6-8pm during Art Week Des Moines! Jennifer Leatherby presents a mixed media installation, Bruised Birds, Empty Nests, a multi-sensory installation about reproductive freedom, oppression, and women’s health.

    2. at least one in every 6 women is sexually assaulted in their life. bruises.
    3. unused tampons represent either pregnancy, menses suppression from birth control, menopause, or any other state of a female reproductive system. nest.
    4. abortion was declared a legal right for all Americans in 1973. since then, hundreds of laws have been passed (by a mostly male legislature) to restrict access to this right. empty.
    5. a woman's right to choose if and when to have a family is essential for equality.
    "My work attempts to express my feminine and human experience. Through the use of multi-sensory, immersive installations and interactions, I ask the viewer to ponder women’s rights, freedom, and oppression. I incorporate found and everyday objects for installation and sculpture in addition to using sound, performance, painting and sewing."
