On March 14, 2018, the Des Moines Civil and Human Rights Commission will hold its 32nd annual symposium. Last year we hosted the 31st annual symposium on “Poverty Affects Us All”. We were able to serve over 500 attendees, our largest audience and impact in recent history.

The theme for the 32nd Annual Des Moines Civil and Human Rights Symposium is the “Blueprint to Building Community”. This theme highlights the symposium goal of uniting residents across the Des Moines Metropolitan area for the greater good of our community. We believe that the blueprint to building community is eliminating systemic racism, being truly inclusive, alleviating poverty, improving economic conditions for everyone, having just laws, and getting to know your neighbor. We have organized five symposium tracks based on that belief: Eliminating Racism, Inclusion, Poverty & Economics, Law & Justice, and Know Thy Neighbor.

Through our interactive workshop presentations, we hope to educate attendees about what we can do to come together to improve our communities and workplaces. In this current climate there is more urgency than ever for us to come together. The education received by attendees will be able to count toward Continued Legal Education (for Lawyers), Human Resources Continued Education Credits, and Continued Education Units for Social Workers. (credits pending)

The only cost to attendees is our $4.00 commitment fee (per person), this includes breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack.
