The coronavirus pandemic has thrown a wrench into the usual Halloween plans in central Iowa. Still, some communities do plan to host safe, socially-distanced trick-or-treating.
In Des Moines, Beggars' Night is a tradition celebrated in place of Halloween, generally on an adjacent night.
Other metro cities are having Beggars' Night and are asking everyone to wear face masks, not Halloween masks. Participants are asked to put out grab bags of candy instead of handing out treats from a bowl and remember to social distance.
