NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Iowa will host its fifth annual Beautiful Minds fundraiser on May 6 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Des Moines University for a conversation about the stigma around mental illness. Additionally, the reception will be the first in a series of events aiming to create a bridge between mental health and the arts.
Throughout the month of May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month, guests can attend dinner parties that will feature a "famous thinker," a local actor portraying a figure from history or pop culture who has experienced mental illness. Dinner parties will be held in the homes of event hosts across the metro, each featuring one of our Famous Thinkers. When purchasing a ticket, guests will select which dinner party they wish to attend, and the dinner party details will be provided in a follow-up email. Purchasing a dinner party ticket also allows you admission to the Beautiful Minds Reception at Des Moines University on Friday May 6, 5:30pm, even if your dinner party is not on May 6. Each of our Famous Thinkers will be guests at this reception.
Proceeds of the 5th Annual Beautiful Minds are used to support NAMI Iowa and our work on education, advocacy, and system change
