Join us for an art show featuring fine art by Kaitlin Flury. Music provided by Joe and Vicki Price.
Kaitlin Flury (http://www.darklingstudio.com)is a contemporary painter and illustrator who focuses on the fantastical side of the natural world. Walking the line between her passion for art & science, she graduated from Towson University with a B.S. in Environmental Science focusing on entomology & a minor in Studio Art. Before leaving the cradle of the Chesapeake Bay for the plains of the Midwest, Kaitlin participated in several art festivals & exhibited her work in galleries in Lancaster & York, PA, as well as in Baltimore & Towson, MD, where one of her sculptures remains on permanent display. In late 2012 she moved to Des Moines & re-opened Darkling Studio. In early 2014 she joined Art-A-Holics, a talented & dedicated group of artists from Central Iowa. Since establishing herself in Des Moines, Kaitlin has continued to pursue her art career by exhibiting in local shows as well as having work in both Five Monkies & Moxie Gallery, downtown. In 2016 she had work published in Radarstation Magazine, an art periodical based out of Seattle & earned a permanent exhibition spot in the Cultural Building at the Iowa State Fair. While animal portraiture is a reoccurring theme, much of her work is inspired by ancient cultural symbolism & history. Her paintings are typically oil or acrylic & consist of bright, bold colors with a very strong emphasis on color theory & form. After starting work for the Iowa Lions Eye Bank as a cornea recovery technician her work has focused more on composition, while embracing slightly darker & more satirical themes.
