  • Overview

Curated by Dr. Lenore Metrick-Chen and the Race / Art Curating Class 2022
We know ourselves through our own embodiment. At times, race is used to define us in a way diametrically opposed to how we know our self to be. That power struggle leads to a pivot point and we must act. Through twelve extraordinary artworks, accompanied by rare historical artifacts, this exhibition confronts and explore issues of race and embodiment in our nation, focusing on Iowa and Iowa’s racial history.
Artists: Phillip Chen, Toni Corbett, Donté Hayes, Ifrah Mansour, Aïda Muluneh, Adrian Piper, Paul Sepuya, Mitchell Squire, Madai Taylor, Kara Walker, Nate Young

The Anderson Gallery is located within the Harmon Fine Arts Center at 1310 25th Street, at the corner of Carpenter & 25th. Free public parking can be found along 25th Street.
