The crowning event of the USYS National Championships Series is estimated to bring $2.1 million in economic impact to Greater Des Moines
DES MOINES, Iowa (November 6, 2019) – US Youth Soccer has announced Des Moines as the host location for the 2021 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup. This tournament is the crowning event of the USYS National Championships Series, the country's most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The culmination of the series will take place in Des Moines from July 7 - 11, 2021, at the James W. Cownie Soccer Complex.
The 2021 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup is projected to bring in $2.1 million economic impact to Greater Des Moines.
“This announcement comes at an exciting time for our community between the proposed expansion of the Cownie Soccer Complex and the anticipated USL Pro Soccer team,” said Greg Edwards, President and CEO of Catch Des Moines. “We look forward to showing off Greater Des Moines to young athletes and their families from across the country.”
The USYS National Championships Series provides approximately 185,000 players on over 10,000 teams from US Youth Soccer State Associations the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation. The 2021 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup in Des Moines will feature 48 teams competing in the tournament, with most of the teams coming from out of state.

Winning the 2021 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup is further evidence in support of expanding the Cownie Soccer Complex. Expanding the current facility by 12 fields could generate $1.47 billion for the local economy over 20 years by bringing more and bigger youth tournaments to Des Moines, according to CHA Consulting Inc.
