2016 Winter Break Programming – Dec. 27-29
Iowans of all ages – especially parents and grandparents with young children – will enjoy games, a movie and a big birthday party at the State Historical Museum. Admission is free and open to the public.
Tuesday, Dec. 27 – Theme: Official Iowa Symbols, 1-3 p.m. Children can learn about geodes (Iowa’s state rock), learn to draw a goldfinch (Iowa’s state bird), play Artifact BINGO and explore the Hands-On History gallery of “Iowa History 101.”
Wednesday, Dec. 28 – Theme: Iowa Birthday Party, 1-4 p.m. Celebrate Iowa’s 170th birthday with cupcakes, treats and games. Children with parents can enjoy a butter sculpting class (registration required), art project and the Flying Pig Fiddle and Banjo band. Play pin the Wings on the Goldfinch and other birthday games
Thursday, Dec. 29 – Theme: Winter in Iowa, 1-3 p.m. See “The Croods” movie starring Iowan Cloris Leachman beginning at 1 p.m., create a favorite Iowa Winter Memory art project, explore the Hands-on History exhibit and play Artifact BINGO.
