  • Overview

The blacksmith John Deere was literally on the cutting edge of technology when he invented the first commercially successful cast-steel plow in 1837. But even he could not have foreseen how his company would change the world. A century after Deere & Co. produced its first tractor, in 1918, a new exhibit at the State Historical Museum of Iowa digs into a century of agricultural innovation in the state where tractors were invented.
