The Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault (IowaCASA) presents a juried art exhibition to support Iowans affected by sexual harassment, assault, and violence. The exhibition will be held at the Viaduct Gallery from Monday, March 19 to Sunday, April 8. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 23 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
This art exhibition comes at an important time. 2017 was a tumultuous year, politically and emotionally, taking down Hollywood elites like Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and Matt Lauer after sexual assault allegations. Quickly, everyday men and women began to examine their own lives. Was that one uncomfortable situation a few months ago considered sexual harassment? Have I been inappropriate to my coworkers? How far reaching is this issue?
Society is slowly opening up into a safe space to talk about these issues, and this art show can be a continuation of this conversation. #MeToo: A Sexual Assault Awareness Art Campaign will offer artists to share their experience with sexual harassment and assault, while raising awareness for services provided by organizations like IowaCASA. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and IowaCASA and the Des Moines Social Club are pleased to host this event.
