From classic recipes to local creations with a modern twist, we've compiled a list of the most notable margaritas in Greater Des Moines.

Malo

The Malo margarita is a well-known staple of downtown Des Moines. A broad offering of exotic flavors like tamarind, guava, and jalapeño, plus homemade agua fresca, are reasons enough to visit this local gem. Then the icing on the cake, or maybe more fittingly - the salt on the rim, is that every Wednesday margaritas are half price!

Mi Mexico

This family-owned business began earning notoriety more than 15 years ago when the restaurant opened in Clive. With daily specials too good to pass up and original concoctions like the Cadillac margarita (OJ, orange liqueur, Cabo Wabo Tequila), you'll find yourself quickly working this restaurant into your weekly routine.

Blu Toro Cantina & Grill

For the most refreshing take on a margarita, stop by Blu Toro. With bright flavors like watermelon cucumber, raspberry hibiscus, and pineapple basil, you'll surely feel like you're sipping on summer, no matter the time of year. For those who like their summers hot, we recommend trying the chili mango or jalapeño margaritas.

El Guapo's Tequila + Tacos

It's no secret why this restaurant is a fan favorite. With an edgy atmosphere inspired by the legend of El Guapo + Dia de Los Muertos and drinks like the hellfire margarita that are sure to pack a punch, patrons can't get enough of this hip hangout. If spicy margaritas aren't your thing, then be sure to check out some of the other unique recipes like the street snack margarita or low rider margarita.

Hidalgo Mexican Bar and Grill

With 15+ margaritas on the menu, we're still making our way through the list to taste them all! You can't go wrong with the original recipe that's served in a shaker with fresh-squeezed lime, Exotico 100% blue agave tequila, orange liqueur, and triple sec. On the other hand, we also love the zesty gold margarita with Sauza hornitos reposado tequila, triple sec., orange liqueur, sweet and sour mix, and a splash of OJ. Try this spot out for yourself and let us know which flavor is your favorite!
