They sink ‘em. You drink ‘em. That’s why the Principal Charity Classic is such a gimme on our city’s calendar. This year’s tournament will also be the first to tee off at the new-look Wakonda Club when PGA TOUR Champions pros start swinging on May 31. Already have tickets for the weekend? Awesome, we’re here to help you hit all the top spots. If you somehow haven’t made plans yet, you can still your tickets here.

1. Cheer for Birdie Beers!

You’re going to want to find the Wellabe Fan Village at the 14th green. The Busch Light Beer Garden will be there with yard games, local vendors, a giant video board and all kinds of concessions. Just don’t take your eye off the ball for too long — because for every birdie made on the 14th hole, rounds of “Birdie Beers” will be poured at a discounted price.

2. Bring the Family Along

The Principal Charity Classic has always been one of our very favorite family outings, but now, Blank Children’s Hospital Family Zone has made it even better. This newly expanded space, with all day activities, will be located by the driving range and practice area at this year’s event, giving kids the best possible opportunity to get autographs and meet players.

Oh, and did we mention that kids 15 and under get free admission to the tournament grounds with a ticketed adult?

3. Kick Back in The Trophy Club

If you’re looking for more of a VIP, all-inclusive kind of vibe, you’re looking for the Michelob ULTRA Trophy Club. This upgraded ticket gives you access to an open-air patio on the 12th green with beautiful views of the action on holes 12, 11 and 7. You also get complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks — yes, complimentary, you read that right! — as well as a food voucher for snacks.

4. Pedal to the PCC

Pedal to the PCC, a new event for 2024, is being brought to the biking community by the Principal Charity Classic, GreenState Credit Union, Big Grove Brewery, and Bike World. This Sunday ride through Des Moines will go from Big Grove to Wakonda Club. Upon arrival at the course, you’ll be able to valet your bike, grab a free beer coupon and a special Pedal to the PCC water bottle.

(Psst! All riders are also entered for a chance to win a free bike from Bike World!)

5. Become a Tasting Tour Pro

Breaking news: Food trucks from all around Des Moines will be slinging local favorites at this year’s Principal Charity Classic. To find the tastiest part of the tournament, you’ll want to head to the MidAmerican Energy Sustainability Grove, a brand-new fan hub near the main entrance. It’s perfectly located to catch a bite to eat, while still catching all the action on holes 7, 8, 10 and 15.
