To celebrate 50 years of fun, Adventureland is throwing a birthday party for the history books. The best part? The party don’t stop all season long with a thrill-filled schedule of events from May to October. Since there are oh so many rides to ride, and fun to be funned, we’ve got our top five to-dos for you.
1. Scream Your Lungs Out
We don’t know about you, but that’s always #1 on our to-do list at Adventureland. And just our luck, there’s a completely reimagined classic to experience this season.
- The Underground: The world’s only indoor wooden rollercoaster has returned! This ride has been completely reimagined with new tech and effects, so your wild journey deep below Adventureland will be totally transformed. We don’t want to spoil anything … but the deeper you go into the abandoned mine, the more unexpected twists you’ll find.
2. Pig Out and Lounge About
New rides AND new food? That’s right, there are two new reasons to treat yourself at Adventureland. The first, called Oinks, is appropriately billed as a pork lovers’ paradise with tenderloins, pork chops and more from Des Moines-based Berkwood Farms. Then there’s Falling Star Lounge, a retro-style spot that features the iconic sign from the Falling Star ride, refurbished just in time for the park’s party.
3. Check the Calendar
This wouldn’t be an extra-special season without some extra-special events on the calendar.
- Festival of Decades: Each Saturday in July, Adventureland is turning back the clock to a different decade with musical acts, fireworks and an all-new light show.
- Oktoberfest: On September 14, you can break out your lederhosen and partake in all your favorite Oktoberfest traditions … and also ride all of your favorite rides between beers.
- Phantom Fall Fest: This fan-favorite event returns with more fog, more freaks, four haunted houses and four scare zones.
4. Cool Off in a Cabana
Just in case you don’t know, yes, there’s a massive water park at Adventureland. It’s called Adventure Bay, and in addition to all kinds of water slides, it happens to have Iowa’s biggest wave pool and lazy river. If you’re looking for a pro tip from us, we’d recommend renting a cabana for a shady place to bring your next round of drinks from the swim-up bars.
5. Double Up for a Deal
Speaking of pro tips, you can get into Adventureland and Adventure Bay for the price of one park all summer long. Always check out Adventureland’s “Promotions and Discounts” page for other deals on things like parking and food.
